Phantom Buffalo

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Phantom Buffalo (formerly The Ponys) is a lo-fi indie rock band from Maine. I recently fell in love with their album Shishimumu which was actually released several years ago here in the States. I don't know why it took me this long to find out about these guys. Phantom Buffalo make lush lo-fi rock with quite the eye for perfect production. Shishimumu, as well as their recently released KIlling's Not O.K. EP, are reminiscent of The Shins and The Byrds, with most songs having that jangly guitar feel to them and soothing vocal harmonies that leave you drifting off to another place. The melodies are also spot-on and and lyrically, the songs are quite impressive with lines like, "Even in our minimized world / we can survive, girl." That one line by-the-way, from "Be the Boss," will be stuck in your head for days after you listen to the song a few times.
