Liz Durrett

Before 2005 it had been over a decade since Liz Durrett had done anything even remotely music related. Call it music exile, but after completing a whole full length album, Liz decided to shelve it and forget about music for a long while. That is, until 2005, when it was released on Athens, GA Warm Electronic Recordings. So what's she been doing all this time?

On January 24, Liz Durrett’s second album, The Mezzanine will be released by Warm Electronic Recordings. In contrast to her previous work, The Mezzanine is a surprisingly hi-fi affair. Gone are the hissing ghosts and unsure echoes that once haunted and obscured her recordings. One listen and you'll have a pretty solid comparison to turn to. Yes, we all know she sounds dangerously similar to a certain Chan Marshall, but is that such a bad thing? Liz makes sparse acoustic songs, but, like Ms. Marshall, she manages to cram in tons of emotion and atmosphere into each haunting track of The Mezzanine.
