We’re just asking to be caught with our pants down

Busy morning at work today, so no real post for now. I'll try to get some actual content up later, but for now I'd liek to direct your attention over to Cokemachineglow, or more specifically, Mr. Aaron Newell's review of We Are The Pipettes, because, although I may be a bit biased, i think it's the only review I've read so far that seems to actually "get" the album. Of course, as I've said several times before, "getting" this record is as simple as realizing that there is just simply nothing there to "get." It is just a really fun, well produced album full of dancable guitar melodies, outstanding vocal melodies, and of course, pretty girls. So go, go read it now. it might even make the haters come around. Maybe.

Why, then, don't you just listen to pop radio? There is plenty of mindless crap there.

Interesting that he goes to lengths to work out the split in work taken on by the Pipettes and Cassettes, and then picks out Judy, Dirty Mind and I Love You seemingly without realising that they all come from the Pipette side (all Rose, in actual fact. In fact he doesn't seem to recognise Rose's voice despite it being the most distinctive of the three.)

Oh, and now it's disappeared off the front page, well done on picking up on Los Campesinos!

Thank you so much for that. I just got into some of Cixous's stuff, and not to mention the fact this album is my top choice for 2006 'til now - no doubt at all. So again - this reference made my day (as all your Pipettes posts).

Just a random note. I'm pretty sure that "Judy" is not at all about lesbians (as he jokingly suggests), but rather a spin-off of the classic songs "It's My Party" and "Judy's Turn To Cry." That's part of why I enjoy it so much--they actually took songs from the era they are reviving and used that material to create a song. I was a little surprised the reviewer didn't mention that, since he seemed to pick up on so many other 50's/60's influences of the group.

Any of you who like The Pipettes might also enjoy an Irish band called The Chalets, similiar old-fashioned pop aesthetic and cutesy girls sharing the vocals... not my thing personally but some of you might be into it.

The Chalets are more present day standard indiepop. I do like The Pipettes nod to the past. If you love the sound of The Pipettes, then you should check out Dolly Mixture:

You can download loads here...

it's one thing to be happy, it's another thing to be annoyed, which is what I am when I hear them. it's total gimmick crap. derivative in the worst way because it pays no homage to the shit it's ripping off. absolute forgettable garbage. regardless, if you enjoy it now and it makes you "happy" I can promise you in 12 months you'll be sick to death of the music and the whole schtick
