I absolutely LOVE the artwork on this record!

In accordance with their plan of releasing nothing but totally perfect indiepop singles, YAY! Records' next release, the debut single from The Sea Lions, is exactly that!

The Sea Lions hail from from YAY! Records' home turf of Oxnard, CA and are fronted by Adrian Pillado. They play quick, shambling pop songs that will not only make your little POP heart just melt away to nothing, but will leave you flailing about wildly on the dance floor before you even knew what hit you! Reading down the song titles on the single, you get a pretty solid idea of what The Sea Lions are all about: "Let's Groove" on a "Beautiful Day" with "Good Feelings" – Cheesy or not, having listened to both "Beautiful Day" and "Good Feelings", oh, about 15 times now, I can safely vouch for that being spot-on! I can't recommend pre-ordering this record enough, so go, GO and pick one up! Have a listen to "Beautiful Day"!

The Tartans! "Cats of Camerford" 7"

Though from Los Angeles, after listening to their new YAY! label single, "Cats of Camerford", the prospect of The Tartans' hometown actually being Scotland is more than a tad bit suspect. A-side "Cats of Camerford" is as fine a slice of sun-shining jangle pop as one could ask for – opening with horns and organ ablast and sounding very undeniably Bellamera & Sebascura. On the flipside, "1939" follows in a similar suit, while "Your Favorite Song" bounces around quite a bit more, showing off the band's lovely glockenspieling and harmonizing skills! The YAY! roster just keeps getting better and better!

There's no need to get deep into it, but as anyone who's anyone will tell you, 2007 has been an hugely excellent year for INDIEPOP! There's been labels popping up all over the place, many of which have been covered here or may be discussed in further posts, but today I'd like to take a moment to shed some light on Oxnard, California's very own YAY! Records. Claiming to "bring the fun back in pop!" the YAY! label is dedicated to vinly-only releases of some of the best pop! that Southern California's got to offer. The label's current roster includes Maria, Catwalk, Pam & Teri, and recent additions The Sea Lions!
