New Header, New Celestial!!!

First of all, I got bored – as I very often do – of the header I had up for a little bit there, so I went and made a new one. I think this might be my favorite and I plan on leaving it up for a while, so I hope you like it! Anyway, onward...

“You only dream about yesterdays. There and back again, there and back again…”

Surprisingly close – though definitely not unpleasantly so – on the heels of last year's brilliant LP Dream On, Sweden's Celestial have got a brand new collection of beautifully catchy, shimmering pop songs for us! The new record, Crystal Heights, is out now as a split release between Music Is My Girlfriend and Lavender and shows the band favoring a brighter, cleaner soundscape in contrast to the darkness, and occasional noisiness we sometimes found on Dream On. Crystal Heights also features the vocals of Malin Dahlberg (Douglas Heart, Laurel Music, We Are Soldiers We Have Guns) and Ulrika Nymark (Northern Fields) creating beautiful breathy layered melodies that one could swear came straight from the heavens. So, listen to the title track, "Crystal Heights" and then ake sure you head over to Music Is My Girlfriend or Lavender and buy this one immediately cause it's probably going to be one of the best records you hear all year.

Fireflies: "X-Mas Song"

Back in May I posted Fireflies' quite possibly better-than-the-original cover of Air's "Cherry Blossom Girl" with a mention of Music Is My Girlfriend and Lavender Records planning on co-releasing a Fireflies record sometime soon – well, the time is now! The record, titled Goodnight Stars, Goodnight Moon, is 11 tracks of dreamy indiepop that's soft as snow. Though I loved it when I heard it back in the spring, Fireflies' music feels much more appropriate now than it did then. The warmth of the songs, feels much better suited for winter months, and being huddled under a warm blanket, watching the snow come down outside your window. Even more appropriate is the inclusion of "X-Mas Song" – a cute little song about a blizzard and Christmas-time love.

Goodnight Stars, Goodnight Moon is out now on Music Is My Girlfriend, as well as Lavender Records. Go here to find out where you can get it!

Music Is My Girlfriend also happens to be having a great Holiday Sale right now, so if there's anything you've been waiting on, now's the time to grab it all up!

"Like an early christmas gift we’ve a winter sale on our catalouge. This means that we offer you 50% discount on all our releases (apart from Fireflies album). The winter sale prices will be valid to the 31st January 2008."

Tell me why can't it be true

I've been quite an avid frequenter of Fireflies' MySpace for the past six months or so, and now I'm super excited because Music Is My Girlfriend and Lavender finally have some solid plans to co-release a Fireflies record! No exact release date yet, but hopefully we'll have one soon.

For those of you new to Fireflies, it is the one man band of a man named Lisle. He writes all the songs and plays all the instruments and records them all himself and stuff, and he is really good. Obviously influenced by the melancholy indiepop of bands like The Field Mice and The Cat's Miaow, his songs are literally like a dream. When you're listening you feel so at peace, and then when it ends you just play it again because you don't want to wake up just yet. His cover of Air's "Cherry Blossom Girl" is absolutely phenomenal, and in my opinion, much better than the original. I think you should listen to it and then take a nap.

If you like this, you should DEFINITELY head over to Fireflies' MySpace and listen to the rest of his songs, particularly "I Was A Brontosaurus" and "Snowstorm"." Okay, that's it for now, have a wonderful weekend! :)
