The end of Pants Yell! was a pretty sad thing for me. Their songs entered my life right around the time I started college and followed me all the way through until the year I graduated. Andrew's words have always meant a lot to me and I guess it's because I feel like I can relate to them so well. If I was going through a bad time, there was a Pants Yell! song to complement my woes. If I was feeling good, that bright picking was always there to accompany my happiness. So, as you can see, they made a pretty big impression on me and though I had little other choice, it was still hard to say goodbye.

Flash forward to Cuffs! Pants Yell! may be gone, but Andrew's knack for writing amazing pop songs lives on; he's just got a few new friends now. Cuffs are based in Cambridge, MA and are comprised of 2/3 of Pants Yell!, a member of Reports and that blonde kid from Big Troubles! They have a seriously fantastic three-song demo available for free download and I could not recommend it enough. If you only download one thing this November make sure this is it. New Pants Yell!: "Cold Hands"

Pants Yell! have just posted up a new song from their upcoming Slumberland debut on MySpace this morning! It's a new, pretty much completely different version of their song that appeared on the first Skatterbrain compilation. Along with it's fuller instrumentation and quicker beat, "Cold Hands" seems to also be sporting a few new lyrics and a shortened title! While I'd gotten pretty familiar with the other version, I'm loving this one too just after a few listens and I'm now officially even more excited for the new record even more than I thought I could be. Received Pronunciation will be out November 10 on LP/CD care of Slumberland Records! A PY! album on vinyl!!! Slumberland makes dreams come true, folks.

After three fantastic outside submissions in a row, I thought it was about time to to post another one of my 'Summer Songs'. As you've likely already gathered, the song is "Stop Making Music" by Pants Yell!. It was one of the b-sides on their '83 in '05 7" released back in 2005. I fondly remember playing the heck out of it on many a lazy day the last Summer before I moved up to school. Not only is it a fantastic song, but these days just hearing that melody just makes me long for Summers already past. The glockenspiel solo just kills me. That Summer feeling will indeed haunt me the rest of my life.

Pants Yell!

Since hearing becoming addicted to Pants Yell's Recent Drama for the majority of last year, and consequently telling everyone I knew how it was the best record of the year, I had been dying for a new record, a new something, a new anything. Like I've mentioned previously, when I first heard news of original drummer Carly leaving the band, I was genuinely worried; you could even say crushed. They seemed to work together as such a cohesive unit, and I felt like a change could kill the charm forever. Well, upon nervously hearing the new record, Alison Statton, just a few days ago, it became pretty evident that they had, infact, NOT lost that charm. It turns out these new sounds on the record like horn solos, waves of strings, and noticeably punchier drumming only add to the charm of a band that has never ever let me down – not even once. Check out the excellent organ and horns bridge on "Tried To be Good." It's moves like that that make Alison Statton such a wonderful success.

Look for the new Pants Yell! album, Alison Statton, on December 4, alongside a limited-edition lathe cut 7" on Soft Abuse Records. Preorder info should be surfacing in a week or two, so stay tuned for that jazz. You will love this record. "Two French Sisters" alone is reason enough to buy the crap out of this album.

New Pants Yell!: "Magenta and Green"

Oh my goodness! What with a Tullycraft and Airfields single already you think this Fall couldn't get any better, but wait – it totally has! We've known about a new Pants Yell! record in the works for a while now, but no idea what it might sound like. Well we wait no longer, on December 4th Soft Abuse will release Pants Yell!'s third full length, Alison Statton. The album – named after cute little Young Marble Giants frontwoman, Alison Statton – is a fairly big step for the band, bringing in saxophone, trumpet, glockenspiel, and even the occasional flare of feedback this time around. I expected a change though, but I was still pretty worried what might happen to the band's sound after Carly left. However, there's no need to worry anymore, because if the rest of the album is as ace as "Magenta and Green", then they're still very excellent. To put it simply, "Magenta and Green" is the epitome of modern indiepop.
